Bump Baby and Me is run by Kathy Milliken, a local from Malahide.
She is fully certified and teaches Pregnancy Yoga, Postnatal Yoga, Baby Massage and GentleBirth classes in the new Parish Centre @ St.Sylvesters Church, Malahide, Co. Dublin.
Kathy also works in a busy Maternity Hospital in Dublin City and is surrounded by the highs and lows of pregnancy and parenthood every day and she has always wanted to work with women at this very special time. Getting to meet local mums in her pregnancy yoga or GentleBirth classes and have them come back to postnatal yoga or to learn baby massage with her is a joy and she really enjoys being part of their exciting journey. Supporting mums during their pregnancy and after birth is really important to Kathy and she hopes her services provide a relaxed & fun environment for mums to get together and enjoy themselves.
Pregnancy Yoga concentrates on poses to strengthen the body during pregnancy and prepare it for birth and Kathy would encourage women from 13/14 weeks of pregnancy to get involved. She teaches useful breathing, relaxation and visualization techniques that can help during labour and also in everyday life. Allowing mums-to- be an hour of ‘Me time’ is important as it lets them prepare for the births of their babies in a safe and comfortable environment. The ‘relaxation’ section at the end of class is important as it lets the class switch off from their everyday stresses of life and tune into their body and baby.
Mum & Baby yoga classes are a good way of getting mums exercising again in a safe, effective way after birth. The classes concentrate on stretching, opening and strengthening the postnatal body with emphasis on the pelvic floor. Both mum and baby will benefit from the class- its a lovely way to bond and it's a great opportunity to meet other mums and babies.
Baby Massage has many benefits. Kathy teaches parents a beautiful baby massage routine that is being constantly taught in many other countries, worldwide, by other certified instructors and is tried, tested and approved by many parents! It promotes parent-baby bonding, good sleep patterns, eases fussiness and helps with colic/digestive issues. Overall it is a special time for parents and babies alike. A big plus is that VHI, Aviva, and other health insurance companies reimburse parents a portion of the course fee. They also understand the huge benefits that baby massage offers.
GentleBirth- As a Mum to be living in Ireland you want to welcome your baby into the world in the safest, most gentle way possible. GentleBirth provides you with the road map to a fulfilling empowered, dignified birth experience in whatever direction your body and baby will take you – in hospital or at home – with or without an epidural.
The GentleBirth Positive Birth Program program involves:
- Changing conscious thought patterns (worry and anxiety) Do you want more worry during your pregnancy or less? The choice is yours.
- Changing your beliefs about birth (reprogramming the subconscious mind withyour GentleBirth CDs) Do you want to continue being afraid of birth and becoming a new parent? The choice is yours.
- Negotiating and navigating the best birth for you! Do you want to have more control over the experience by understanding your options and what is best practice in international maternity practices? The choice is yours.
In our experience combining all three elements makes for the best birth experience possible.
CD's, workshops, meet-ups and Facebook support groups are all part of the GentleBirth experience! www.gentlebirth.ie
